Outside of the Church what ambition is as yet unfulfilled?
I’ve often thought about going on to do a Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible. I love languages and literature. Something brand new was sparked in me while doing the ancient biblical languages. We’ll see what happens. Meanwhile, there is no place I’d rather be, nothing I’d rather be doing, no greater task in this world than living life telling His story.

Recognizing that New Jersey is the greatest place in the world, what other place in the world do you really enjoy visiting and why?
Christiane and I very much enjoy Italy. The warmth of both the climate and the people, the loveliness of the landscape (and the cuisine!) have always drawn us. I also love Israel. Both its geographical and spiritual landscapes present challenges I feel deeply drawn to confront.

You are stuck on a desert island. Besides the Bible, and your wife, and your family and your friends, what three inanimate objects would you take with you?
A compass, a Bowie hunter’s knife and a surfboard.

What is one thing about you (previous jobs / accomplishments) that would surprise the congregation?
I played the leading role of Santa Claus in my 6th grade Christmas play.

What does it mean to “Love God” to your personally?
Loving God is like the most beautiful marriage imaginable — laughter, fulfillment, intimacy, passion, acceptance, affection, strength and power.

Why do you do your current role at Long Hill Chapel?
There is nothing more joyful than bringing the message of the gospel to hungry and malleable hearts. This is why I love missions — and why I love making disciples out of young adults, who are the future of our church.

Why is “Loving Others” so critical?
We may be the only piece of God and his nature that some people ever encounter. If people do not experience God’s love through us, how will they ever know what He’s really like?

What does “Serving the World” mean to you?
It means seeing the face, the hands, the feet of Christ in every person I meet.

Given that Soccer is the “beautiful game” what is your second favorite sport?
Without a doubt, college football. American football, that is. :)
